Statement of intent: How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? On my magazine front cover I intend to follow codes and conventions of a typical magazine of the genre: this may include a large masthead, cover lines to give the audience a sense of what the magazine is going to be about, a main headline that is dramatic, a colloquial and gossipy tone towards the audience and some smaller pictures relating to other stories in the issue with anchorage text. I will also use bright colours (pink, yellow) in order to attract and stand out against other magazines in a shop. I will also convey ideas soio-politically associated with young people. I intend for this magazine to fit in Bauer’s portfolio since the tone and scheme will match throughout. However, since my magazine is aimed at a younger audience of 16-25 year olds I intend to use models from this age group and stories relating to their interests in order to be successful at diversifying Bauer’s audience and adjusting content to attract a new, younger audience. This is also the reason I will chose not to include the Bauer logo on my production since preconceptions of Bauer may put young people off from buying the magazine. My magazine will also have elements of a comic book style through the use of certain colours and splashes in order to appeal to a younger age demographic. I intend for my contents page to feel like one that you would typically find in a magazine of its kind, this may include a bright colour palette, a list of what you can find on each page and also some more images. The mode of address needs to feel colloquial and informal although not so much that it is patronising to my readership. Social groups that will be included in my products are both men and women. I will represent social groups, such as gender, by stereotyping certain elements to do with the mise-en-scene in order for the audience to instantly recognise what the magazine is trying to say to its audience. My website will develop a similar style to the magazine, but the comic book finish will not be present as that is not appropriate for the website. I will retain the more lurid colour scheme in order to maintain a sense of branding, but the images will be more clear and precise. I will also include an introduction to the editorial team as I would like to develop a strong sense of the relationship between the young team involved in the creation of the magazine and the young target audience. This is intended to solidify a sense of the magazine being created by young people and for young people in order to suggest a strong personal relationship and also to encourage interaction. Since the website can be updated at any time I intend for it to show up to date news and also give small insights in what will be in the next edition of the magazine in order to leave the audience with a sense of enigma. How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? The magazine will have direct calls to action to my website such as a QR code taking you to the website, in order to solidify the multi-platform convergent element of the magazine which will be appreciated by my ‘Gen Z’, technologically influenced audience, who are more likely to use online sections of a magazine. My website will advertise the magazine as a subscription and therefore guaranteeing revenue month to month. The magazine website will also showcase some other elements to the brand such as stories that are not in the magazine and along with an exclusive content hyperlinked page that will show a celebrity story in which my audience should share a dominant reading around, due to the exclusive nature of it, along with it being part of celebrity news.

  1. The content of this is good, but I would like you to present it a little differently. Look again at the questions specified by the exam board and answer them rather than the guide questions that I have specified. This can be done as you go along rather than being something that you need to prioritise right now. Also, when we are able to interact a little bit more (hopefully June onward, I can discuss this with you more carefully).
